臺中市政府交通局結合彰化縣政府、南投縣政府、交通部高速公路局、公路總局及中部科學工業園區，參與交通部補助102年度智慧交通基礎建設與應用計畫案，評選結果表現優異，爭取到區域交控補助經費達2500萬元。

為整合臺灣中部區域交通資訊，並進一步進行交通即時路況發布及交通管制設施應用，臺中市政府交通局102年度提出以短、中、長期三大目標完成區域交控建置；短期實作部分，除包含彰化縣與南投縣的交通號誌時制計畫重整外，更提出以e-Tag為基礎的旅行時間整合資料庫，藉由制定共同規範，將有使用e-Tag及願意作為旅行時間提供的使用者，轉化為交通資訊來源的探偵車，使整個都市具有較多元化的路段旅行時間推估資料來源。

交通局並將利用此旅行時間資料庫發展手機App免費軟體『臺中i-Yo』及供大眾使用的臺中市交通即時資訊網，融入使用者客製化精神，便利民眾加值使用，將交通資訊創造最大效益；惟整合資料庫不涉及個人資訊問題，未來也請民眾放心。

交通局表示，未來希望藉由共通平台的發展，完成交通資訊的共享與發布，並利用這些交通資訊進行後續交通疏導策略的整合與實作，解決快速道路與平面交通的壅塞問題，進而進行區域交控中心的協調控制，由區域交控中心直接對各縣市中心的設備直接控制，達成區域交通控制的長遠目標。
