炎炎夏日何處去？暑假期間到了墾丁除了戲水之外，還可有不同的選擇。有「恆春半島後花園」美稱的牡丹鄉，白色的野薑花已盛開，還有多元的原住民文化及豐富的生態旅遊資源，是最佳夏日避暑勝地，值得前往深呼吸。

每年7至9月間，沿著199縣道到了牡丹鄉的東源村及牡丹村，可以發現兩旁白色的野薑花盛開，面積廣達50公頃的野薑花海，讓空氣中散發著迷人清新的野薑花香，這條全國最「香」的道路，並為單車騎士評為最佳「朝聖路線」之一，美麗的東源村總讓遊客驚豔不已。

為了保護這片美麗的淨土，此一區域並已經登錄為台灣國家重要濕地，東源森林遊樂區則是此地最著名的景點，其擁有美麗的東源湖（哭泣湖）、蓊鬱高大的桃花心木森林及長滿野薑花、水社柳的溼地生態區。

當微風徐徐吹來，在此盡情享受森林浴的滋潤。望著如詩如畫的東源湖及滿佈白色野薑花的原野，讓人彷彿置身在童話故事的美麗世界中，享受群山環繞的閒適寧靜。

為讓更多人體驗野薑花盛開的美景，牡丹鄉將於7月27、28日、8月3日、4日每週六、日在美麗的東源森林遊樂區舉辦「相見馨牡丹－野薑花季系列活動」，以原住民樂舞文化、部落民俗競技、休閒旅遊及工藝農產等四大主軸作為活動內容。開幕式並有神秘的巫師祈福及部落青年報信鳴槍等儀式，各部落族人將穿戴原民服飾，盛裝與會，為野薑花季系列活動揭開序幕。

除了部落各族人同心協力一展技藝外，還有不同主題的樂舞活動，邀請新寶島康樂隊、民雄、BOXING、張心傑及林鴻鳴等多位知名藝人在野薑花季與大家一起搖擺。此外，「挑戰199」鐵馬、路跑活動，亦邀請全國運動愛好者前來199縣道享受野薑花清新的幸福滋味。

活動周邊將設置部落農產市集，現場還有東源湖（哭泣湖）免費解說服務，及每人只要599元部落遊玩套裝行程。
