為了補救美國日益破敗的高速公路系統，美國好幾個州考慮規定汽車安裝一個計程黑盒子，以便對開車族以里程計稅。黑盒子會將你的開車里數資料輸進政府資料庫，計算你應繳的稅。使用者計程付費，有人認為該做，由於涉及隱私，反對者很多，包括美國民權聯盟，但已有大批開車族安裝黑盒子測試。加州政府說，新制的科技是有的，加州將會採行。
