臉書13日宣布，今後美國用戶不必再表明自己是男還是女，性別標示除了男、女，還有大約50種選擇，包括transgender(跨性別)、cisgender(自己心理認同自己是什麼性別)、gender fluid(流動「性」)、intersex(雙性，即陰陽人)，以及neither(什麼都不是)。另外，用戶可以選擇希望別人在公開場合給自己什麼稱謂：he/his, she/her，或中性的they/their。總原則：上臉書怎麼舒服，就怎麼選性別。臉書說，該公司請教許多女同性戀、男同性戀、雙性、跨性團體及組織後，推出這項改變。
