MP4-12C可說是McLAREN繼經典的F1之後，再度步入超跑市場的代表作，自2009年問世至今可說是受到了不少肯定，但面對其他對手性能越來越強、新世代車型即將推出的情況，McLAREN也不打算屈居下風，在先前就正式宣佈將推出定位介於MP4-12C與P1之間的全新車款650S，並且在日內瓦車展進行全球首演的動作，不過近來在原廠舉辦VIP私密賞車之後，650S的實車樣貌提前在網際網路上曝了光。
