中華民國駐休士頓辦事處昨天代表政府與美國阿肯色州政府簽訂「駕照相互承認瞭解備忘錄」，持有中華民國駕照、合法居住於該州的民眾，即日起可免筆試與路考申請美國駕照。

駐休士頓台北經濟文化辦事處長夏季昌與阿肯色州財政暨行政局助理廳長安格（Walter Anger），5日代表雙方政府，正式簽定駕照相互承認瞭解備忘錄。

即日起凡年滿18歲、合法居住於阿肯色州並持有效中華民國駕照的民眾，向休士頓辦事處申辦駕照英文翻譯公證文件後，可免筆試及路考，直接向財政暨行政局換取阿肯色州駕照，申請人須支付相關費用及通過視力測驗。

夏季昌表示，駕照互惠措施將有助台灣廠商派駐人員、學術交流人士及留學生在阿肯色州安頓生活並開展工作，這是利多的互惠措施。

除了駕照互惠安排外，阿肯色州參議院特別在今年2月通過決議案，鼓勵並支持台灣與阿州駕照相互承認，並支持台美建立更緊密經貿關係，支持台灣成為跨太平洋夥伴協定（TPP）成員。

阿肯色州是美國南方重要的州，前總統柯林頓曾擔任兩屆州長。阿州於1983年與台灣省建立姊妹州關係，同年小岩城與高雄市締結姊妹市，小岩城市長史托多拉（Mark Stodola）曾於2013年9月應邀前往高雄出席亞太城市高峰會。(中央社)
